When two large boarding schools in the county were constructed and Escalante tourism increased, they decided to return to the Motel business, which brings us to 2016. Take a right (go north) onto County Road 4870 and proceed for about 400 feet. Go west on County Road 4740 for two miles and you will come to County Road 4870. When tourism fell off they converted it into a boarding school. Claron and Ruby Griffin began their business career in Escalante in 1945 when they bought the building on the south side of Main Street vacated by Courtney Spencer, owned by H.J.
